Luwak coffee history

Civet (Luwak) coffee history is closely associated with the history of coffee cultivation in Indonesia. In the Dutch colonial era in Indonesia, in the 18th century, the Dutch in Indonesia open coffee plantation in the colonies, especially in Java and Sumatra. Coffee seeds are implanted one of Yemeni origin Arabica.

The coffee plantation workers from Indonesia in the cultivation is not allowed to reap the harvest of coffee even though they really want to drink itOne day, the workers in the plantation area see a ferret animal (civet) who likes to eat the coffee fruit. Interestingly only the flesh of the fruit are digested, while the coffee bean is still intact and undigested. This can be seen from the results of animal civet feces.

Furthermore, the workers collect the feces and clean it to be processed because they're really want to taste the coffee that they grow. Coffee beans which have been cleaned will going to be roasted and ground. When the coffee powder were brewed with hot water and served, they have different flavors and fresh coffee.

The news about the pleasures of coffee is then known by the Dutch owner of the garden. This coffee became their favorite. Because of its rarity and unusual manufacturing process, the civet coffee has become an expensive coffee since colonial times.

Luwak is pleased to search for the ripe fruit, including in choosing the coffee fruit. Coffee fruit will be digested, but not with the seeds are protected by a hard shell. Coffee beans are not digested it will then be reissued along with feces.

Here is the process of creation of the beans that has now become an industry.
